At PBL, we are committed to being responsible members of the business community as brokers and an employer. PBL’s matching charitable donation and community-giving program enables our employees to donate their time and service to community projects across Ontario.

Take a look at our Facebook feed for news and community involvement:

Here are a few things we are working on in the community:

The PBL Timmins team banded together to ride the Big Bike for Heart & Stroke.

Their efforts raised over $1,200 for the community!

Way to go Timmins!

This is the third year in a year in a row PBL has been awarded the priviledge of supporting youth in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

PBL Insurance Limited would like to thank and recognize the fundraising efforts of our employees.  Spurred by a little internal competition and team work, PBL employees raised almost $3,800 for The Breast Cancer Society of Canada. Special congratulations go to the PBL London team for raising over $1,000!  The teams had fun playing bingo, holding silent auctions and bake sales as well as Dressing for the Cause.

PBL would like to take the time to highlight the incredible work our very own Theresa Arsenault is doing with CADS (Canadian Association for Disabled Skiers). Theresa supports the downhill skiing program, tailored for people with mental and physical disabilities, focusing on “one on one” learning. In her role she will be taking part in their “Soldier ON” program which focuses on our war heroes who have returned to us, including veterans from all over Canada and USA.

PBL has been a proud supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters Toronto for the past two years through our sponsorship of Paddle Royale. The event is put on by BBBST’s Young Leaders and has helped to raise over $115,000 over that time. PBL’s own Mike Boyton (pictured) is one of the Co-Chairs of The Young Leaders and was chosen as one of the BIGS of the year last year for his role as a mentor to his little bother Isaac.

PBL would like to congratulate Brave Control Solutions for capturing the Small Company Of The Year Award at the Chamber of Commerce 24th annual Business Excellence Awards in Windsor, Ontario. Pictured here is Brent McPhail giving his acceptance speech after being awarded the distinction by PBL President Mike Robinson (center).

PBL would like to congratulate Rachel Palamides who was this years recipient of our 2014 St. Clair College Award sponsorship. PBL has been supporting St. Clair students for many years with a scholarship each year to one full-time student of a business program who achieves a GPA of 3.5 or higher and who gives back to the Windsor community and the college through active volunteer activities. Here we see Sarah Jane Dowling, PBL’s HR Director, presenting Rachel with her award.

PBL would like to congratulate Danielle Hodgson and Aaron Haavisto, PBL’s choices for our 2013 Cambrian College Scholarship. Danielle and Aaron are seen here with PBL Account Executive Lisa Alexander after being presented with their awards.

Through our donation matching and employee engagement program, PBL Insurance Limited has put a team into the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon May 6th 2012 to help raise awareness and money for the Princess Margaret Hospital cancer research centre. The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation raises over $70 million annually to support breakthrough research and patient care and education programs of Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) – Canada’s leading cancer research hospital. PMH is a recognized international leader in the fight against cancer. But none of this would be possible without the generous support, commitment and dedication of our donors and our community. The Run or Walk to Conquer Cancer is held in association with The GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon in support of The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.

PBL would like to congratulate Philip Wall and Andrea MacFarlane for being selected as our recipients of our 2012 Cambrian College Scholarship. Here, we see PBL Vice President Guy Jolicoeur presenting Philip with his award.

Through employee engagement and donation matching efforts, PBL is a proud to participate and support CARE Canada’s Walk in Her Shoes charitable initiative. CARE Canada aims to be a global force and a partner of choice within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty. Walk In Her Shoes is a CARE Canada fundraising campaign where participants challenge themselves to walk 8000 steps every day for 8 days and raise money to empower women and girls to fight poverty.

As part of its fundraising campaign, “Leading us to prosperity”, the Collège Boréal Foundation recently received $212,000 from Collège Boréal’s community partners. Acclaim Ability Management Inc., B&D Manufacturing, Bestech, Collins Barrow, Le5 Communications Inc., La Coopérative Boréal, CTV Televison Inc., PBL Insurance limited, Reliable Maintenance Products, and Technica Mining Group are all companies that joined the outpouring of generosity surrounding the campaign which has an objective of 5 million dollars. This brings to nearly 4 million dollars the money raised for Collège Boréal student bursaries as well as for the new facilities of this postsecondary institution. The Chair of the “Leading us to prosperity” campaign, Mike Mayhew, stressed the importance of these new donations: “We are particularly grateful to all the companies that recognize Collège Boréal’s public interest mission. The value of an educational establishment is also measured by the support of its community and as such, Collège Boréal’s efforts to provide employers in our regions with a skilled and qualified workforce find in these financial contributions a recognition that is as tangible as it is generous.” It should be noted that the Collège Boréal Foundation has provided over 2,000 bursaries to students of the Collège; for 2011-2012, this represents close to $1.4 million. So far, the Foundation’s endowment fund is the highest of all colleges per student and exceeds $10.7 million.
